Meet the Trio

Marcy
Marcy is the newest member of Dolce Argento, joining after one of the founding flutists moved away. A bit of a late-comer to music, her journey didn’t start until age eighteen when she decided to learn the violin, and it wasn’t until she picked up the flute four years later that she truly fell in love. Unfortunately, after a few years of playing, she had to take a ten-year hiatus for health reasons. In 2022, thanks to some gentle shoving by her best friend, she finally picked up her flute again and now is a happy member not only of Dolce Argento, but also of the Wallaceburg Concert Band, the Faith Baptist Church worship team, and a jazz trio called Echoes of Grace.
Throughout her time as a musician, Marcy has performed at charity events, church services, weddings, funerals, senior’s residences, and farmer’s markets. Wherever she’s playing, her goal is to bring glory to God through producing beautiful music. She believes that music is a gift we were given to help soothe damaged hearts, plant seeds of hope, and bring as much joy as possible.
In her non-musical life, Marcy is an award-winning author. She writes cozy mysteries under the pen name Emily James and fantasy novels and non-fiction books for writers as Marcy Kennedy. Alongside the flute, Marcy enjoys spending time with her many pets (all rescues), reading, playing board games, socializing with family and friends, and relaxing in front of the TV with her husband.

Sonya
For Sonya, faith and family are the foundation of everything she does. Happily married and the proud mother of three adult children, she brings that same sense of devotion, joy, and purpose into every part of her life—including her music.
By day, Sonya serves as an elementary school vice-principal, where her leadership, creativity, and compassion shine. But music has always been her lifelong passion. A flautist for over 40 years, she also plays guitar, piccolo, and bass, embracing every opportunity to share music with others.
Since 2016, Sonya has been a dedicated member of the Wallaceburg Concert Band, performing on flute, piccolo, and occasionally guitar. She currently serves as the chair of the band, helping guide its growth and community presence. That same year, she became a founding member of the ensemble now known as the Dolce Argento Flute Trio, where her artistry and love of ensemble playing continue to flourish.
Her musical journey expanded again in 2018 when she began playing electric guitar with the Brass Factory Big Band, adding yet another dimension to her musical repertoire. She also contributes her talents on flute, guitar, and bass to her church worship team, blending her musical gifts with her faith.
Most recently, Sonya joined the London Flute Choir—a new adventure that has brought fresh inspiration and a whole lot of joy. Surrounded by experienced flutists, she’s discovering a different kind of ensemble magic, and even stepping into something entirely new: occasionally playing the alto flute. Its deep, velvety sound has become a delightful surprise, and she’s having an enormous amount of fun exploring it.
Over the years, Sonya has performed for weddings, farmer’s markets, nursing homes, church services, funerals, community events, and—perhaps most importantly—simply for the joy of making music.
When she isn’t performing or working in education, Sonya enjoys creating videos, developing websites, attending concerts, and spending cherished time with her family.
Her life is a beautiful harmony of faith, family, and music—and Dolce Argento is one of the many places where that harmony truly shines.
